just as a point... the super dome capacity is approx. 72,000 for football.
the population of New Orleans is approx. 500,000
that leaves plenty of room for people in need that have nothing to do with the Saints selling out football tickets. that is all I am trying to say, EO.

Part of the reason why had not to do with football, but of the image of New Orleans remembered with the torn roof of the dome. A repaired dome roof, is a milestone to public impression of N. Orleans coming back, and thus reinvestment in N. Orleans, whether it be in money, convention scheduling, or football attendance. Oddly enought, the Supere Dome means more to the cities image, than just having the Saints. Had the Saints moved, it would be a bigger signal of N. Orleans being a loser city. Image means money. look at NYC in the fall of 2001, what was its image?

the fact that he (and about 7-10% of the population) have more than anyone else in the realm makes the term socialism a farce.
As far as Reggie goes.....vs the Falcons that is.....tough play....but I think he'll be ok against Atlanta's Defense.... he's got the moves to get by most of them....w/out getting beat up TOO much.....

It was in jest to your bleeding heart statement about so many people go with out. That life, that's business like it or not. It's too bad that some people end up on the low end of the spectrum, but in most cases it's self inflicted. It's all about what they want to make out of their lives. But don't think I'm a heartless conservative, I do feel sorry for some people, but the majority have done it to themselves. BTW, to an earlier post, they spent 180 million to fix up the SuperDome, which cost 160 million to build. Anyway, my comment before seems to have led this down the political path, which is maybe where it belongs.

The NFL will spend over ten times what was spent on the Super Dome, to get a stadium in LA. I believe N. Orleans is worse off than LA, but the point is, it is business.

uh... I think in this case, Hurricane Katrina kinda helped. some people do "do it to themselves". however this time, in the context of this thread, a storm came and did it to them. so when you say this in that context, knowing more effort seems to have been put into fixing a football field and selling out the tickets to line the pockets of an owner who just a few months ago was trying to get out of town... well... you do kinda sound like a heartless conservative.

I just have a problem with the people of New Orleans asking for money every 5 seconds but they have the money to rebuild, improve, re-open, and sell out the Super Dome.
It sends mixed messages about the status of the state and the importance placed on the needs of its people.
|
about 70% of the ticket sales have come from out of town and out of state buyers. the population of new orleans is about a little over 250,000 right now and most of the season ticket buyers are in fact first time buyers.
and the cheap seats were sold at about 14 bucks a ticket.
the only message being sent in all of this is that although being perrenial losers we really do care about our team down here.
and the only reason people are still asking for money down here is because we have and still are being royally f***ed by our government!!
come and live down here for a while and see how things really are.
