I was already touching on this too.
I want to say I really REALLY like the sound of the California Gold. Not sure if you were just trying to be funny but that name is a realy good one.

It is a politically correct name that I happen to like. I got my post in just before yours on the name thing, so we were thinking alike. 49ers name is related to the Gold Rush. Seems I have heard the California Gold name before, probably why it was stuck in my mind.

California Gold are an American soccer team, founded in 1998. The team is a member of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Developmental League, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, and play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference against teams from Bakersfield, Fresno, Glendora, La Mirada, San Diego, San Fernando Valley, San Francisco, and Santa Ana.
They play their home games at the Peter Johansen Stadium on the grounds of Peter Johansen High School in Modesto, California.
The team's home colours are gold and red. Their away colours are all white.
Come on people, this is common knowledge here.

Do you think they become maybe the California 49ers?

is Santa Clara near LA? I heard a report on the radio this morning that they are in negotiations already for a site in Santa Clara.

Santa Clara is between SF and San Jose, hell that is close enough they would not change their name I bet. Not much different than the Dallas Cowboys being in Irving or soon Arlington Texas.
Would eliminate the need for a name change. It would put them in a more resonable late season climent being south of the bay area. Make it more attractive for Super Bowls than Candlestick.
However it would place them dead square on top of the San Andreas fault I think.

I just read an article and York said "there is nothing that could possibly happen to make him change the name from the San Franciso 49ers, one of the most recognized brands in sports".
That would make a move to LA kinda shaky, for sure.

17 NFL owners voting him off the island would make it happen.
Not suggesting that would happen but as a rather low level owner with piss poor revenue numbers, he should avoid making blanket statements that might piss off Jerry Jones or Danny Snyder too much.
Still Santa Clara would be close enough he does not have to make any changes.
