Football "Best" In Texas
Football "Best" In Texas
USA Football recognized Texas as the "Best Football State," presenting Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips on Tuesday with the 2007 USA Football Governor's Cup Award here at The Ranch.
Texas earned the award based on a study conducted by The Wharton Sports Business Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania. Several factors were considered, including percentage of boys playing high school football, the percentage of high school seniors who have secured NCAA Division I-A football scholarships, birth states of the 2007 NFL draftees as well as coaches and Nielsen television ratings for NFL games.
The top five states in this year's study were Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey and Maryland.
"This honor celebrates our state's exceptional football tradition," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "Football in Texas captures our imagination and teaches our young people valuable life lessons. To the youngsters and parents who make youth leagues run to NFL Sundays in Dallas and Houston and every level in between, we're proud of our football heritage which this award from USA Football makes tangible." USA Football, a non-profit organization, became endowed by the NFL and NFLPA in 2002, and leads the sport's development on the youth, high school and international amateur levels.

considering Texas is as big as Pennsylvania and Florida combined they darn sure better have more
on the flip side I have lived in...
South Carolina, Italy, Nebraska, North Dakota, Georgia, California, and Texas.
I have played full contact football in...
Nevada, California, Oklahoma, Louisana, Arkansas, and Texas.
I visited most of the states in the contenential borders and I can tell one thing I am certain of...
Texas simply grows bigger people which means bigger football players.

Florida players are fast no doubt about it, and honestly they are usually in the best shape because of the constant humidity they work out in.
I will tell you this though if I was going to recruit a state for speed alone, I am going to Mississippi. The young men down there can run.
Funny Mississippi gets left out of a lot of this national stuff but some of the best football players of the last two generations have been from Mississippi...
Walter Payton
Jerry Rice
Brett Favre
Ray Guy
Jackie Slater
all have some arguement for being the best ever at their positions.
others include
Lance Alworth
Steve McNair
Deuce McAllister
Eric Moulds
Archie Manning
L.C. Greenwood
