but I am excited to see that the American people have progressed far enough that a black man can be elected President.
Obama is not my choice, he is not the best choice, hell as Walter Williams said he is not Jackie Robinson, but he does seem to be the choice
and that is historically significant
now the GoP needs to reload and concentrate on the mid term elections in 2010
and Obama needs to go to Pennsylvania Avenue and prove he is not anti-american, anti-semetic, not a socialist, and that he will NOT be Nanci Pelosi's pack mule.
I hope for the country's sake he can do all that.

While it is all but over, I am still holding out hope...I know it defies all odds....I know its not going to happen....but I can still hope, can't I? I mean, you would have said I was nuts if I told you 8 weeks ago that the Phillies would be playing in the World Series the same week that the Birds won a conference game, Flyers took a home and away series from the Devils, the Temple Owls won a nationally televised conference game, Penn State won AT Ohio State to remain undefeated, Downingtown West scores on a double-reverse WR option pass to the coffin corner that the safety had in his hands as he and the Downingtown receiver tangled feet, ball popped into the air, and the WR caught it as he fell into the end zone to tie the game with 20 seconds left in the half (their 2nd TD in 20 seconds) and Josh got laid, you would have said I was insane, right? I mean, all that happens in 8 days, and you still think fairy tales can't come true?

as for McCain calming the crowd, that was a different event, and it was an extremely honorable thing for him to do. he told them "look... let's get one thing straight now... Barack Obama is a good man... you do not have to be afraid of him being the President..."
McCain clearly tried to send the message that look.... let's stop this fear politicking... this is not about terrorists or things you should fear... this is about the best policies, and lets keep it at that. unfortunately, it is a bit too little too late, in that that should have been the whole thing from the very beginning. but I personally appreciate McCain trying to do that, and I think it is a shame his audience did not appreciate him for doing that. McCain was the bigger man in that situation, imo. I think we can all agree and disagree on the issues, but I think the fear stuff just breeds hate and contempt among the general population... present company excepted.

I jus tthink it is unnecessary.
run on the issues... let the rest take care of itself. what McCain did, imo, was honorable. the woman called him an "arab", and McCain told her that was not true. the guy said he was scared, that Obama was about to be President, and McCain made it clear, "look... Obama is an honorable man, that has done some very good things in his career, and you do not have to fear him being President."
I applaud McCain, because it would have been easy for him to use fear politics to charge that crowd up, and he refused to do it, even to the point of getting booed. and in the face of getting booed, he continued to reiterate that there needs to be a focus on the issues and policies to run this country, as opposed to the fear of Obama being a terrorist or anything like that.
Meanwhile, his handpicked VP stands on a stage, with an evil smirk on her face, as an entire crowd is yelling "kill him! kill him! off with his head!"
this is 2008, clarke... not the middle ages. I'm not asking you to like Obama... obviously, that isn't going to happen. hell, man... I know you even think he may be a terrorist or something... or at least close enough for disaster to happen. okay. you have the right to your beliefs. and I admittedly do not know you beyond this website. so hell... I could be wrong. but as much as you cannot stand Obama, I find it tough to believe you would go to that extreme, over a PotUS race.
she was exciting a riot, and taking pleasure in it. I find it horrendous.
John McCain is an honorable man, and a war hero. and I do not agree with some of his policies of late, but dammit... if only he had picked a real, qualified running mate... I could maybe see voting for him.
Sarah Palin? she is a mistake. a big one. and probably, politically, a fatal one. and that is sad. McCain deserves to go out better than this, and this bitch, imo, is doing him in. I know her presence, in many ways, is very influential in my vote. I was very middle of the road until she arrived... albeit, I was not excited by any of the candidates, I was at least able to see me maybe voting McCain. now, for me to vote for a 72 year old man with a cancerous history, whose running mate is one bad health day away from being President, and that running mate is Palin?
no way. I don't care about her being governor. I think she is as potentially dangerous to this country as you do Obama, I guess.
McCain should have just picked Romney, and I really think we would not even be having this conversation. hell, Clarke... if McCain picked Syler, we wouldn't be having this conversation... I would be that right now, he wishes he could stuff Palin back under the igloo he pulled her ass from under.

I am surprised nobody commented on the "Josh got laid" portion of the unlikely string of events...

Re: Election 2008
for my Steelers Amigos
Tom Rooney (yes he is part of the family) is running for the 16th Congressional seat in Florida.
He is winning his attempt to retake the seat vacated by Mark Foley following is disgusting sex scandles.
Of course it is a deeply GoP district and he should be winning.
One thing about is really impressive to me however...
Rooney's opponent Tim Mahoney was a key contributor to the Foley scandle; calling for his outster and a return to family values.
It has since come out that Mahoney had multiple mistresses, some of the paid, that he bribed one fo them and her lawyer to go away, and is now getting an ugly divorce because of his inability to adhere to family values.
Rooney however is above using this and has 100% declined to speak about it or to let any one in his campaign use it.
Rooney said his opponent’s personal conduct is off limits.
“We’ve managed to stay out of that, and I’m going to continue to do that,”
to not use it any way is classy
to not use it when it is an OBVIOUS way to show your opponent is a lying scum bag too, is even more classy
WAY TO GO Mr. Rooney!
Rooney is instead concentrating on the fact that he was both active duty and inactive duty Army. (his wife was also a Captain in the army)
Rooney is strongly opposed to growth in Washington and rampant spending.
Born in Pennsylvania
Raised in Florida (degrees from both Florida and the U)
Military stays in Texas and New York (West Point as a Constitutional law instructor)
Worked for the Attorney General (now Governor) in Florida
CEO of a Shelter for abused children
This guy has all the makings of an up and comer ladies and gentlemen.

Wayne Huizenga wants to sell Dolphins before Barack Obama raises tax
Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga said Sunday no date has been set for selling up to 45 percent more of the team to Stephen Ross, but the presidential election is among the issues weighing on his decision.
That's because a Barack Obama administration is expected to mean higher capital-gains taxes.
"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."
Ross purchased 50 percent of the team and Dolphin Stadium for $550 million earlier this year with the intention he would eventually become majority owner. NFL owners approved the eventual transfer this month, meaning it can take place anytime.
"If you do it this year or you do it next year, the difference is humongous because of the taxes," Huizenga said.
But the Obama campaign disputed Huizenga's figures on Monday, saying the candidate's plans are to raise the capital gains tax maximum from 15 percent to 20 percent -- a 33 percent increase, not double. And the top rate would be for families earning more than $250,000 or individuals earning more than $200,000.
"Mr. Huizenga is wrong about Senator Obama's tax plan, which calls for a maximum capital-gains rate of 20 percent -- a third lower than the rate that President Reagan set in 1986," said Bobby Gravitz, Obama campaign South Florida spokesman. "Furthermore, Senator Obama's tax cut for 95 percent of working families will mean a whole lot of Dolfans will be better able to afford those ever-rising ticket prices."
Regardless of when he sells, Huizenga vows to maintain a 5-percent stake in the team.
"It's been 19 years and after 19 years, it's kind of time," he said. "I don't want to be one of those owners who gets real old and hangs in there, we know some of those stories already, I don't want to be one of those guys."

This is the start ladies and gentlemen....more and more companies will be selling to out of country investors or just moving out of the country to avoid paying the taxes that will be coming their way. The only sound you will hear is the mass exodus of jobs from our country to corporate friendly countries.

Re: Election 2008
for the record Huzinga is the SECOND NFL owner to suggest they want deals done BEFORE Obama becomes president.
the Rooney brothers want to have sold to Dan and be clear and free before Obama as well
but Clarke is right you will see large numbers of companies trying to relocate out of the country
Obama's presidency promises to bring a rise in both death penality taxes and capital gains taxes, I know this because he said so himself.
But also once his medical plans go into effect major hospitals will start coming of the tax rolls and property taxes in the cities will go up. However the property tax increase of the hospital's becoming tax exempt will be nothign compared to the hti we will take on school taxes.
add in the increased government regulations Obama wants on enviormental concerns and the subsiquent tax/fees corporations will face for that and will will see a MASS migration to Canada and Mexico of American industries.
Mexico's enviromental regulations are so lax it would not shock me to see Detroit Michigan completely relocate there.
